Sarah // Portrait Session

Lately I have been trying to bring out my camera for fun, so when I was visiting with my friend Sarah, we got out in the backyard and did a quick mini-shoot with her!
The sunshine was out and she wore a great dress and fun rubber boots for these photos.  Thanks for being a great model Sarah!

Image Quest BC 2011 Conference // Turning your dreams into reality...

Yesterday I attended Image Quest BC 2011 at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC.  I was a bit nervous to attend a photography conference by myself, but I really wanted to go!  I'm also still recovering from an ear infection, and felt a bit awkward that I could barely hear out of one ear... haha.  So I was alone and not feeling 100% but still decided to absorb any information I could.

I cured my early morning tiredness by stopping at Starbucks on the way and took off down the highway towards Richmond.  The River Rock Casino was fascinating.  I loved walking around and checking out all the sights, features and areas of the resort.

My morning at Image Quest BC started off by listening to Jamie Delaine, a local Vancouver Wedding Photographer.  I have followed her work and blog for a while now, so it was neat to meet her in person and hear more about her story and business.  She spoke about "Dreaming Forward" and how important dreaming and gathering inspiration is for your photography business.  "Without taking time to dream, you'll have no idea of how to market yourself".... so true!

Her advice on allowing yourself to dream, to gather inspiration and how it all connects was awesome.  Basically, without a clear dream, it's hard to come up with a vision for your business.

"Your Dreams = Your Values = Your Brand" - Jamie Delaine

Jamie shared her own ways and experiences on how she "dreamed".  She talked about her vision of what was her dream client, dream experience, then shared how she reached her goals by writing them down and taking "mini" steps to achieve them.  A highlight was getting to meet her afterwards, and you'll have to check out the dorky photo (of me, not her) I took with her. :)

Courtney // Relive the Dress

At the end of February, I had the idea to organize a Relive the Dress shoot and invite a bunch of photographers so we could just have fun, shoot and network.  So we did it!

Courtney was the first model I had the chance to work with and she was a trooper.  What you can't tell from these photos is that it was literally ZERO degrees celsius... it even started SNOWING during our shoot, but she didn't let the wind or snow stop her.

We took photos at the Historic Stewart Farm in Elgin Heritage Park (South Surrey BC).  Courtney has been married for a year already, but had fun reliving her dress again and accessorizing with fun boots, gloves and more!

Rachel, Lindsay and Erin // Relive the Dress

I'm excited to share even MORE photos from the recent Relive the Dress shoot that took place in Elgin Heritage Park!

This set of images is all about 3 friends: Rachel, Lindsay and Erin.  I wasn't able to spend a lot of time with them due to the freezing wind and snow, but they still braved the weather and put their best smiles on!
Thank you ladies for modeling for so many photographers... we had a blast shooting you and hope you enjoy the photos!

Fort Langley // Photo Walk

A friend of mine, Sarah, recently bought a new DSLR so she wanted to try out a Photo Walk hosted by a local photographer.  We both already knew how to shoot in manual, but thought it would be fun to go ahead and see how another photographer teaches the basics and maybe we'd even learn something new!   I admit it, we basically pretended we didn't know anything (we are so bad). haha.  :)

Well, the photographer was a great teacher (I'm impressed!) and in the 2 hours she went over some basics with a group of us.  Now you can't learn everything you need to know in 2 hours, but it's definitely a great way to start off.

That being said, if you are ever interested in a photo walk, feel free to contact me!  I would LOVE to network with other photographers, whether you are a beginner to advanced, shoot for fun as a hobby or are pursuing it as a career! :)  (I'll even share some tricks I learned from this photo walk if you'd like!)

Here's just a few shots from playing around in Fort Langley during the photo walk...
